Hallo

Ich habe folgende Konfiguration:

PC <–USB 2.0–> TP-Link TL-WN821N v3.0 <–WLAN, ca 4m + eine Wand–> D-Link DIR-615 H1 Router <–> Kabel Deutschland Modem mit 100MBit/s

Und damit folgende Probleme:

• manchmal ist der Ping sehr hoch, so wie bei blume666, http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/starke-pingschwankungen-unter-ubuntu/?highlight=D-Link+DIR-615#post-3368567 , mit gleichem Router, allerdings mit einem anderen Chipsatz

• die Verbindung bricht immer wieder ab und ich muss den Stick ab- und wieder anstecken. Dieses Problem tritt nur bei höherer Belastung (>200kBit/s) auf und die Chips auf dem Stick werden dabei sehr warm. Ursache dafür ist höchstwahrscheinlich die Tatsache, dass der Treiber (noch?) kein Powermanagement beherrscht. Abhilfe schafft dafür (zumindest provisorisch) ein Kühlkörper.

• Die Verbindung ist viel zu langsam dafür, dass eigentlich nur eine sehr kurze Distanz überwunden werden müsste. iwlist zeigt bei „Bit Rates“ nie mehr als 54MBit/s an, obwohl Stick und Router 802.11n unterstützen. Allerdings können beide nur das 2,4/2,5-GHz-Band verwenden, nicht das 5GHz-Band.

Kann mir bitte jemand helfen?

Zum Stick selbst:

Verbaut sind AR9287+AR7010 von Atheros. Laut Label im Gehäusedeckel ist die Modellbezeichnung

TL-WN821N(DE) VER:3.0

, obwohl unter http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/WLAN/Karten?highlight=TP-Link#TP-Link aufgeführt ist, dass diese Konfiguration erst ab Version 3.1 gilt. Verwendet wird der Treiber ath9k_htc, was auch zur Version 3.1 passt, genauso die USB-IDs (siehe unten). Ist da im Wiki ein Fehler?

Die Chips werden jetzt nur noch ca. 30-35 Grad warm, während sie vorher sich bis ca. 60-70 Grad aufgeheizt haben, bis sie sich abgeschalten / der Linux-Kernel sie abgeschalten hat. 1,0-1,5 MB/s (Spitzen bis 2,5MB/s) sind jetzt drin, ohne dass es Probleme gibt wegen Überhitzung. Höher geht die Rate aber scheinbar trotzdem nicht. Scheint also kein 'n' genutzt zu werden. Grobe Überschlagsrechnung: Signalqualität pendelt laut iwlist scan so zwischen 40/70 und 50/70, Übertragungsrate wäre (nominell) maximal 54MBit/s, also 6,75MB/s, mit Protocol Overhead und der Dämpfung/Signalqualität dürfte dieser Kanal also ziemlich ausgereizt sein.

btw: Der Stick scheint jetzt auch zu drosseln bevor er überhitzt. Ich bin begeistert!

Gib die Nameserver deines Anbieters (oder die Google-Public-Nameserver 8.8.8.8 und 8.8.4.4) direkt im Netzwerkmanager an, siehe hier. Danach Netzwerk neu starten.

Jo, DNS-Server habe ich geändert. Das macht den Verbindungsaufbau zwar minimal schneller, aber sollte nicht die Ursache des Problems beheben. Manchmal brauchen auch „ganz normale“ Seiten, die ich mehrfach täglich besuche >10 Sekunden zum laden.

Arbeitet der Router tatsächlich im N-Modus? Bei der Ausgabe des ersten Scans wurde das nicht so angezeigt. Ob das funktioniert ist fraglich, da bei 40MHz Bandbreite ja nur zwei Kanäle im 2,4GHz-Band störungs- und überlappungsfrei verwendet werden können und weitere Netze in der Nachbarschaft u.U. stören.

Möglicherweise funktioniert es im reinen G-Modus sogar besser und stabiler. Alternativ kann der Stick noch über eine USB-Verlängerung angeschlossen werden um eine optimale Ausrichtung zu erreichen.

Ja, laut Weboberfläche arbeitet der Router im kombinierten g/n Modus. Und mit angeblich 100% Signalstärke zu meinem PC, was eigentlich nicht sein kann. Und mit den Kanälen hast du Recht. Der NetworkManager findet über den Stick bis zu 10 WLANs, da ist die Luft sozusagen „voll“. Ich probier mal den Router auf g Modus zu stellen. Das heißt aber, für eine deutlich bessere Verbindung müsste ich die Hardware austauschen (5GHz-fähig) oder doch irgendwie ein Kabel verlegen, richtig?

Kabel wäre bei der Netzdichte natürlich am besten und auch am preiswertesten sofern zur Verlegung in der Wohnung keine größeren Aktionen erforderlich sind.

Geräte für das 5GHz-Band sind ja (noch) rel. teuer und es müsste sowohl der Router wie auch die WLAN-Hardware des Rechners ausgetauscht werden. Treiberunterstützung für entsprechende PCI und USB-Geräte unter Linux ist auch noch nicht richtig ausgereift.

Der einzige USB-Stick, der mir bekannt ist und auch funktionieren dürfte, wäre der Netgear WNDA3200 mit Atheros AR7010/AR9280 Chipsatz. Ob dieser auch auch sicher im 5GHz-Band funktionieren würde kann ich allerdings nicht sagen. Der Treiber ath9k_htc befindet sich ja auch noch in der Entwicklung. Ich hatte hier schon mal etwas dazu geschrieben.

PS: für die verbaute Ethernetkarte (0x10ec:0x8168) ist übrigens ebenfalls ein passender Treiber erforderlich. Anleitung.

Danke für die Auskunft! LAN wird schwierig, weil ich eine Wand durchbohren müsste und im nächsten Raum das Kabel über die Decke oder unten am Boden verlegen müsste, beides ist nicht so toll. Die neue WLAN-Hardware ist allerdings auch teuer. Mit PowerLAN-Geräten hab ich schon mal wo anders versucht, aber nur miserable Erfahrungen damit gemacht („200MBit/s“ waren bei ca. 40m Kabel und 2 Sicherungen dazwischen nur noch ~600kB/s).

Die Ethernetkarte (Auf dem Mainboard, ASUS P7H55M-USB3) funktioniert einwandfrei ohne Treiber, wenn ich doch wieder das Kabel anstecken sollte, werde ich den Treiber aber mal probieren. Funktioniert übrigens schon seit Ubuntu 10.04 (ohne backports) einwandfrei. Kann allerdings sein, dass der Treiber dafür hin und wieder bewirkt, dass der PC nicht mehr aus dem Ruhezustand aufwacht (sehr selten, in ca. 1 von >100 Fällen).

Interessant das Leute immer wieder von denselben Problemen berichten. Ich muss sagen ich habe bisher alle hier bekannten Massnahmen durchgeführt, und ich meine wirklich alle, aber so richtig glücklich werde ich nicht mit dem Stick. Verbindungsabbrüche waren eine Zeitlang weniger, aber nach einiger Zeit (Kernelaktualisierungen?) ist alles wieder wie immer und ich denke langsam das Mistding ist unter Linux zumindest nur gut für die Tonne. Wird mir eine Lehre sein beim nächsten WLAN-Stick darauf zu achten wie es um die Kompatibilität mit Ubuntu bestellt ist.

Nach einem Kernelupgrade muss der aktuelle Treiber erneut für den nun verwendeten Kernel gebaut und eingebunden werden. Wie gesagt, der Treiber ist ja auch noch nicht ausgereift.

Der Stick ist über eine 30cm USB-Verlängerung angeschlossen um etwas Abstand zum Laptop zu gewinnen. Das verbessert hier die Übertragung. Die int. Karte des Laptop ist abgeschaltet. Gegenstelle TP-Link TL-WR1043ND Router eine Etage tiefer. Downloads mit ca. 700KB/s, keine Lags/Aussetzer oder sonstige Probleme. Verbindung ist stabil.

Hier läuft das Teil also auch im N-Modus. Könnte also eine Unverträglichkeit zwischen Stick und dem D-Link DIR-615 H1 Router sein. Firmware ist aktuell?

Mein Router auch ein TP-Link Modell, im Vergleich zum OP also ein anderes. Also nach meinem dafürhalten liegt es am Stick. Ich schätze mal das Hauptproblem dürfte Überhitzen sein weil er eben nicht "richtig" angesteuert wird von den unausgereiften Treibern, auch bei mir beobachte ich dass der Stick schon relativ heiß werden kann. Du hast das Problem wohl durch den Umbau in den Griff bekommen.

Gegen das Überhitzen hilft die Deaktivierung der Hardware Encryption, wie Elektronenblitz im 2. Post hier beschrieben hat. Habe das durchgeführt und das Gehäuse geöffnet (entfernt) und trotz ca. 8-12 Stunden Betrieb pro Tag nur ca. alle 2-3 Tage mal Probleme wegen der Überhitzung, so dass diverse Software (Browser, Evolution, …) einfriert. Stick ab- und neu anstecken hilft dann aber immer. Einen Kühlkörper habe ich nicht angebaut, auch keinen zusätzlichen Kondensator oder sonst was. Die Übertragungsrate ist aber immer noch schlecht (maximal 3MB/s im Dauerbetrieb, stark schwankend) und die hohen Timeouts hab ich auch noch. Grund für letztere wird aber wahrscheinlich sein, dass mein Stick dauernd den Kanal wechseln muss, weil die Kanäle voll sind…
