da ich schon einige Threads hier fand welche genau das gleiche Problem wie ich haben, nämlich das verschwundene nm-applet (Netzwerkmanager), veröffentliche ich mal den Tipp der bei mir geholfen hat (Login-/Logout + Reboot wurde aktuell überstanden).:

Hey Fellas nm-applet problem solved Solved it own after searching long. Method--- in the terminal type "sudo edit /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf" change the "managed=false" to "managed=true" and then save it. then in the terminal type "killall nm-system-settings" and then reboot...... it works for me... Try with urs and tell me the result

Habe ein LAN per manueller IP für alle User + ein WLAN (DHCP) für alle User sowie mehrere WLANS (DHCP) nur für meinen Benutzer konfiguriert. Das nm-applet hat bis vor einigen Tagen wunderbar funktioniert, aber ich vermute dass zwischenzeitlich ein Update kam und das wars dann...
