Leider ist die Benutzung von nm-applet als Zwischenlösung nicht mehr möglich, nach einem Neustart bekomme ich nun immer:

Eine Instanz von nm-applet läuft bereits.
Deswegen habe ich temporär ein Kabel durch die Wohnung gelegt um hier auf die Seite zu kommen.
Nicht in der Liste aber für das Problem sicherlich interessant:

Networkmanager läuft also und erkennt auch alles richtig. Meiner Einschätzung nach kann das frontend einfach nur nicht richtig mit dem Networkmanager kommunizieren. Trotzdem natürlich die gewünschten Terminal Ausgaben:
