Vorne Weg: Es Hängt nicht mit der Distribution zusammen, denn es tritt auch unter anderen Ubuntu Derivaten als auch komplett anderen Distributionen auf. Der Desktop wird nur auf knapp 3/5 * 3/5 des Bildschirms in der linken oberen Ecke angezeigt. Wobei ich keine andere Auflösung als 640 x 480 einstellen kann. Früher konnte ich mal mit Hilfe von VESA den Desktop, vom mittlerweile doch schon älteren Laptop, normal anzeigen, d.h. auf dem ganzen Bildschirm, lasse. Wenn ich jetzt versuche den VESA über die Option xforcevesa zu benutzen, bleibt der Bildschirm einfach schwarz. Ich hatte damals eine xorg.conf erstellt, doch leider ist sie mir abhanden gekommen und ich bekomme es auch nicht mehr hin, diese so zu erstellen, dass VESA benutzt wird. Ich hoffe, dass mir da einer helfen kann, denn so ist der Rechner echt nicht zu gebrauchen. Wenn ihr noch Informationen braucht, dann gebt mir bitte bescheid und ich liefere sie euch. Zeig' bitte auch das /var/log/Xorg.0.log . Es ist ein Laptop und kein weiterer Monitor angeschlossen? Falls:
.. merkwürdige "unknown connection" an VGA1, außerdem liegt kein Monitordatensatz vor. Welches Laptop genau bzw. native Auflösung des Panels?

Es handelt sich um Fujitsu Siemens Amilo L 6820 und hat eine native Auflösung von 1024 x 768, soweit ich das über google richtig herausbekommen habe. Zumindest hatte ich diese Auflösung unter VESA einstellen können und habe sie da auch benutzt. EDIT: Vergessen noch zu erwähnen, dass kein weiterer Monitor angeschlossen ist.

Bitte folgenden Test: Starte den Editor gedit, um grub zu bearbeiten:

Suche die Zeile, die mit

beginnt. Setze z.B. hinter das splash in dieser Zeile (eventuell sind dort noch mehr Bootoptionen zu sehen als in folgendem Beispiel) die Bootoptionen video=VGA-1:d video=LVDS-1:e drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware=edid/1024x768.bin
Heisst:

Die Modeline ist sicher eine andere, die Werte müssen erst durch cvt ermittelt werden. Geh' nach Hinzufuegen einer Aufloesung ueber cvt und xrandr vor!

Hrm, das war eine "Intel" Modeline, die funktionieren müßte. Aber gut, hier die mittels cvt generierte Modeline:

Durch die Bootoption wird jetzt der Desktop auf dem ganzen Bildschirm angezeigt und das sogar mit der richtigen Auflösung:

Allerdings scheint die Farbtiefe nicht richtig zu sein. Ich hoffe, man sieht es auf dem Screenshot und es wird nicht nur so bei mir angezeigt... http://www.xup.in/dl,49150489/2013-08-04-102923_1024x768_scrot.png/ EDIT: Bin gerade echt irgendwie zu blöd das Bild über den Bild-Tag (hoffe ihr wisst, was ich meine) anzeigen zu lassen.

Ich habe mir mal aus Interesse mal die Log-Datei angesehen und es scheint, dass Xorg eine andere Modeline benutzt, als es durch cvt angezeigt wird. 1

Die anderen Optionen bringen keinen Unterschied. Allerdings musste ich den Rechner nach dem Wechsel von ...x32 zu ...x24 zwei mal neustarten, da der Bildschirm beim Desktop einfach schwarz wurde, wobei der Splash vorher noch angezeigt wurde. Nur zur Sicherheit, sudo update-grub nicht vergessen? Hm, dann lass es erst mal auf "32" mit der Bootoption und lege eine xorg.conf an:
