Ich hab ein Problem, bei meinem Medion Akoya E4214 Laptop: Ubuntu 16.04 freirt mehrmals am Tag ein. Dann geht absolut nix mehr. Auch die "Magische S-Abf-Taste" nicht. Unter Windows gibt es anscheinend keine freezes, aber das nutzte ich zu wenig, für eine fundierte Aussage. Nun die Allgemeine Frage, wie man ein solches Problem eingrenzt?!? Grundsätzlich läuft, bis auf WLAN alles. Für WLAN muß ich das Kernel Modul RTL8723bu mit selber bauen, dazu nutze ich https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8723bu oder https://github.com/rcn-ee/rtl8723bu
Aber auch mit nicht geladenen WLAN Kernel Modul, kommt es zum einfrieren. Von daher schließe ich den mal aus... memtest habe ich schon laufen lassen, ohne Auffälligkeiten. Evtl. helfen hier Boot-Optionen?!? https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Bootoptionen/#Haeufig-genutzte-Bootoptionen
Vielleicht könnte ich auch das Log-Level erhöhen und nach einem Absturz nachsehen?!? Tipps?

In der Regel durch einen Blick in die Logdateien (in der Hoffnung, dass die nicht kurz vor dem Freeze aufhören, weil du den Rechner dann ja abwürgst. Aber selbst dann finden sich manchmal nette Warnungen, dass irgendwo irgendwas nicht stimmt). Dabei fange ich immer mit den Kernelmeldungen der kern.log an, während einige andere hier syslog bevorzugen. Viele Grüße Vej

Wenn das Gerät hart abstürzt, findet man natürlich wenig in den Logs. Bei Medion und nagelneuer Plattform (vermutet, vielleicht gibt es da ja verschiedene Ausführungen), kann man mit Problemen rechnen. Ich gehe mal von einer Inkompatibilität aus, Temperatur hast du ja sicher geprüft. Neueste Firmware drauf und neueren Kernel testen.

Zu hohe Temperatur kann ich eigentlich ausschließen: Denn ich hab im Dashboard die Anzeige, die letzte gemessene ist somit sichtbar und im "grünen" Bereich... Außerdem friert es gern auch beim Nichtstun ein 😉 Ein paar Informationen:

Energiesparfunktionen/Inkompatibel https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2325230 Da kommen aber bestimmt noch mehr Tips. Ich würde die LTS Schiene verlassen. Smart sieht für mich top aus 👍 . Wäre ja auch noch schöner, bei so einem neuen Gerät.

Ich habe es schon mit dem 16.10 Beta probiert → das selbe Glaube nicht das es am Energiesparen liegt... Daraus erwacht es ja... Der Freeze kommt eigentlich immer, wenn des Desktop sichtbar ist. Also nix Bildschirmschoner und so...
Wobei es vielleicht dennoch an den C-States legen könnte... Ich probiere mal:

Es scheint das ein setzten von intel_idle.max_cstate=1 ein funktionierender work-a-round ist. Ist wohl ein Bug im Kernel und wird hier besprochen: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109051 Frage mich ob intel_idle.max_cstate=2 vielleicht auch stabil läuft... Werde ich auch mal testen müssen.

Ich hab es jetzt mal mit 2 eine weile lang laufen lassen und das ist auch stabil 😉
Nehme ich wieder zurück! Nur im Netzbetrieb läuft es mit max_cstate=2 stabil, aber per Akku nur mit max_cstate=1 !

Tja, schade aber auch... Nun ist es auch wieder mit max_cstate=1 eingefroren 😢 Bei https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109051 wird ja auch noch kräftig weiter Diskutiert.
Wenn ich das richtig sehe, ist man sich noch nicht so einig, ob der Fehler im Kernel oder in der Intel CPU steckt ;(

Hallo jedi, magst du trotzdem einmal die cat /var/log/kern.log und die cat /var/log/kern.log.1 (etwas ältere Version) posten? Der folgende Befehl filtert zur leichteren Analyse die <info> -Teile des Netzwerkmanagers mit grep weg: cat /var/log/kern.log | grep -v "<info>"
