Moin, moin,
ich habe jetzt Xubuntu 20.04 installiert und bekomme meinen HP LaserJet P1102w nicht zum Laufen.
hplip-3.20.11.run ist installiert, hp-check -r meldet keine Probleme, aber cups sagt: "Filter failed".
Was kann ich tun?

Das hättest Du nicht machen brauchen. Der HP LaserJet Pro P1102w benötigt mindestens HPLIP 3.10.4, für Focal liegt 3.20.3 in den Ubuntu-Repositories. Nun hast Du aber einmal damit angefangen und mußt bis zum Ende durchgehen. Installation HP Linux Imaging and Printing

Letztes Mal habe ich den Prozess an dieser Stelle abgebrochen und das Plugin selbst installiert. Es lief auch - aber der Drucker druckte eben nicht.
Könnte hier die Wurzel des Problems liegen?
Wenn die HPLIB in den Repos liegt (das wusste ich nicht) - kann ich dann den Kram nicht einfach runterwerfen und die 3.20.3 installieren?

Offenbar ein Python-Versionsproblem, aber Du hast gefragt, ob die Installation von hplip*.run wieder entfernbar ist → verlinkte Anleitung, ganz unten (was auch irgendwie logisch ist).

|
führt aber zu
| sudo: python: Befehl nicht gefunden
|
während
ergibt.
Was mache ich denn nun?

super. Jetzt läuft es. Mit pyhton3 und angepasstem Pfad deinstalliert, dann hplip aus den Repos installiert. Danke schön!
