Man muß "root" sein, um das Plugin zu installieren. Auch während der graphischen Installation wird das root passwort aabgefragt.................. Dass die Terminal-Ausgabe nicht sehr erhellend ist, ist mir klar. DAs Problem ist wohl weniger HPLIP oder der Drucker an sich, sondern die Verbindung...

Wenn das Tool korrekt installiert wurde hast Du im Panel ein hp Icon. Zumindest kann man einen Unity/Unity Startmenü erstellen. Klappt denn die Aktualisierung noch? Ausgabe wie gebeten.
Auch über die graphische Installation, resp. hp-setup.......
Seltsam, im Artikel steht:
Führt man das Installationsprogramm mit Adminrechten aus, so startet die HPLIP-Toolbox nach der Installation nicht, aufgrund eines Berechtigungfehlers des ".hplip" Ordners in /home. Hoffentlich sind Deine Rechte nicht verbogen. Edit: Auch in axts Anleitung steht nix von sudo.

Ich glaube, hier gibt es ein Mißverständnis: Im Panel ist in der Tat ein HP Icon und es funktioniert auch über den Device-Manager. Im dritten Schritt wird auch hier versucht vom entsprechenden HP-Server das binäre Plugin herunter zu laden, wofür man sein root passwort eingeben muß. Wenn ich das über das Terminal mit - hp-setup - eben dieses starte, dann natürlich ohne passwort. Versuche ich manuell über das Terminal nur das plugin zu installieren, eben gleich als root...... Im Post weiter oben habe ich die die Terminalausgabe für die versuchte Installation des binären Plugins gepostet, um eben deutlich zu machen, wo es hakt. Also nicht: hp-setup Eben:

Ob Du das nun glaubst, oder nicht: HPLIP will ein propieritäres binäres Plugin herunterladen. Ohne dem läuft der Drucker nicht. Und dafür ( und nur dafür, nicht für das eigentliche setup) muß man, egal ob über die graphische Oberfläche, oder direkt über das Terminal eben root sein. Das muß für viele Drucker, aber scheinbar nicht immer und für alle Drucker geladen werden. Das eigentliche Problem aber ist aber offenkundig, dass meine System Pakete ausschließlich über, in den Paketquellen ausgewählten Server, lädt und nirgendwo anders. In der Installationsanleitung steht, dass man seine Paketquellen auf "main server" resp. Hauptserver setzen soll. Die erforderlichen Pakete kommen aber über einen HP Server, und da holt sich Synaptic eben nichts, sondern "sagt" mir: error, no network detected. Oder ähnliche Ausgaben.

Hallo Merilor, das hatte ich regelmäßig in irgendwelchen frühen Versionen von HPLIP, dass er das Plugin runterladen wollte und den Server nicht fand. Früher hab ich das geklärt, indem ich die aktuellste Version von hplipopensource.com geladen und installiert habe. Mittlerweile sollte es auch den Weg geben, das Plugin mehr oder weniger direkt herunterladen zu können - oder den entsprechenden Aufruf im Source code (Python-scripte?) zu patchen. Ich habe die manuelle Installation des Plugins leider nicht hinbekommen. Lösungsvorschläge:
Google sollte wissen, wo das Plugin herunterzuladen (☺ sein sollte - diesen Pfad mit dem Eintrag im Log? vergleichen. Check, ob der Server erreichbar ist. Netzwerkprobleme ausräumen. Manuell Plugin installieren oder im hp-Setup 'lokale Kopie' anwählen (HpLip _sollte_ das können, ich war da leider zu doof für).

Hallo Dirk, Danke für den Hinweis, aber auch das hatte ich schon versucht: Von dieser Seite : https://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/auxfiles/HP/plugins/ habe ich mir den Code kopiert. Mangels einem ausgewiesenen Plugin für meinen Drucker, habe ich das zur HPLIP Version zugehörige gewählt. Und dann eben so vorgegangen, dass ich bei der Auswahl eben als Quelle diese Kopie gewählt hatte. Letztlich ist es gescheitert, weil hier irgendetwas fehlt. Keine Ahnung mehr was.......

weist denn hp-plugin auch auf dieses Verzeichnis / diese URL? Man könnte hp-setup oder hp-plugin nohcmal mit strace oder wireshark laufen lassen, um die Zugriffe über Netzwerk mitzulesen - denn das Programm regt sich über einen Netzwerk-Fehler auf ... Dirk

Eine Lösung ist immer noch nicht in Sicht. Das Problem liegt auch ganz offensichtlich weder bei HP, noch beim Drucker als solches. Tatsache ist, dass meine Paketverwaltung nichts lädt, was nicht auf dem gewählten Server liegt. Pakete von Canonical, launchpad etc. werden nicht geladen, auch nichts anderes.

Was ich schon geschrieben hatte, hat sich bestätigt: Auf einem anderen Rechner ließ sich HPLIP anstandslos installieren und das Plugin ebenfalls. DEr drucker läuft hier..... Es liegt also definitiv an dem Umstand, dass meine Paketverwaltung hier nicht mitspielt, bzw. während der Installation keine Verbindung aufgebaut wird. Irgendwo ist der Wurm drin. Die source-list habe ich geprüft. Eingetragen ist hier nur der Server, den sich die Paketverwaltung gesucht hat, nachdem ich auf "besten Server" auswählen geklickt hatte. Zurücksetzen hatte auch nichts gebracht. ICh habe Synaptic de- und wieder neu installiert, in der Hoffnung die alte Konfiguration wieder zu erhalten. Ohne Erfolg. VErmutlich sollte ich an anderer Stell einen neuen thread eröffnen. Bei der Suche stoße ich immer wieder nur auf ungelöste Probleme dieser Art, aber nicht näherungsweise auf Lösungen. Trotzdem Danke an alle, die sich darum bemüht haben.

Ein Problem ist gelöst, siehe auch hier: https://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/paketquellen-sind-bei-installationen-und-updat/ Aber dieses hier immer noch nicht: Hplip ist im Prinzip installiert, bis auf das binäre Plugin. Zwar gibt es eine Verbindung zum HP Server, bzw. zu dem Server auf dem die Datei liegt, aber dennoch funktioniert es nicht. Einmal der Versuch das plugin direkt zu laden: xxx@xxx-desktop:~$ sudo hp-plugin

Done. Nach kurzer Recherche, fand ich dann und wann den Hinweis, dass schlicht der Server von HP schon mal nicht funktioniert. Heute kam allerdings auch eine update Meldung von HP, vielleicht ist es auch das.....

Na endlich..........!!! Nach ewigem Suchen bin ich nun doch auf eine Lösung gestoßen, die einigen vorigen Ansätzen so ziemlich gleicht. Nach wie vor läßt sich das plugin nicht einfach so installieren, weil es schlicht nicht gefunden wird. Ich hatte ja bereits von hier https://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/auxfiles/HP/plugins/ das betreffende Plugin herunter geladen, bzw. den Inhalt kopiert und selber die Dateien erstellt. Nun habe ich das wiederholt, aber direkt auf obiger Seite per "Rechtsklick" → "Ziel speichern unter" die beiden Dateien hplip-3.15.7-plugin.run https://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/auxfiles/HP/plugins/hplip-3.15.7-plugin.run und hplip-3.15.7-plugin.run.acshttps://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/auxfiles/HP/plugins/hplip-3.15.7-plugin.run.asc herunter geladen und beide der Einfachalt halber auf dem Desktop gespeichert. Beide Dateien werden auch gebraucht. Dann habe ich über das Terminal das Setup wiederholt: 1

Das Ganze hatte ich schon einmal versucht. Vermutlich war mein eigentlicher Fehler, den Inhalt der Plugin Dateien zu kopieren und selber auf meinem Rechner mit gedit Dateien zu erstellen. Die Codes können so wohl nicht kopiert werden. Auf die einfachste Art, wie oben beschrieben klappt es!
