Nachdem ich nun mit einer GeForce GTX 1660 ausgiebig Darktable testen konnte, denke ich über eine noch schneller Grafikkarte nach. Etwas über 3 Sekunden bei APS-C pro Foto kann sich bei Vollformat schon deutlich verschlechtern. Viel Möglichkeiten habe ich nicht, weil es irgendwann zu teuer wird. Es sind also in Überlegung die GTX 1660 TI, die RTX 2060 und die RTX 2060 Super. Womit sich auch schon die 1. Frage ergibt, bringen für Darktable mehr Speicher auf der Grafikkarte etwas, die RTX 2060 Super hat 8GB, die normale nur 6. Wenn der Speicher für Darktable egal ist, dann bleiben nur mehr 2. Irritierend sind auch etwas die Preise, der Preisunterschied zwischen einer guten normalen 2060 und einer billigen Super liegt vielleicht bei 20€. Aber irgendwie habe ich bei einer "billigen" Super, die leuchtet kein gutes Gefühl, bei vielen Gigabyte wird über Probleme bei der Lautstärke berichtet und ich will eine semi-passiv, dh mehr oder weniger lautlos, wenn zB gesurft wird.

Daß sich der Lüfter komplett ausschaltet im Idle, ist Heute eigentlich Standard. AMD und Nvidia haben da nette Marketingbezeichnungen, aber im Prinzip egal.

Mir ist wohl bekannt, daß es bei irgendwelchen Billigheimern in der Vergangenheit Probleme gab!

Kann mir wirklich nicht vorstellen, daß da 6GB bzw. überhaupt sonderlich Speicher benötigt wird. Das richtet sich doch alles an Gaming mit 4k etc. Zeigt die Nvidia GUI das nicht an?

Du könntest mal den Strom messen, wenn die Karte unter Volllast arbeitet. Nur gewisse moderne Spiele reizen alle Module einer GraKa völlig aus. Nur dann sind Bus, VRam und GPU am Limit.

Ich würde mir das Geld sparen, für einen "Aha" Effekt mußt du sicher richtig Geld ausspucken 🙄 . Das Problem ist, daß deine jetzige Karte auch nicht schlecht ist!

Es ist so, daß AMD bei OpenCL mehr leistet plus generell mehr Leistung bei gleichem Geldeinsatz bringt. Über die Treibersituation bei Linux sollten wir jetzt keine Diskussion anfangen.

Normalerweise nutze ich nur AMD, aber in deinem Fall bin ich auf deiner Seite was Nvidia angeht.

Kann mir wirklich nicht vorstellen, daß da 6GB bzw. überhaupt sonderlich Speicher benötigt wird.

Ich auch nicht, aber wenn ich mir die Alternativen ansehe, dann werden es automatisch 8GB. Mittlerweile habe ich nämlich noch entdeckt, dass das bei Grafikkarten mit der Thermik gar nicht so einfach ist. Zum einen sind 2-Slot Grafikkarten meist ein wenig größer als 2 Slots, man braucht also 3 Slots um mit einer PCIe-Karte darunter den Lüfter nicht zu zu decken. Bei einer 3 Slot-Karte ist der Abstand zur nächsten Karte schon ziemlich gering, vielleicht 1/2cm, also nimmt man besser eine 2-Slot-Karte und da ist die Auswahl extrem klein.

Ich muss mich zwischen diesen Karten entscheiden:

MSI GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Armor 6G OC 42mm

KFA2 GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER 41mm

MSI GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER Armor OC 44mm

Die KFA2 scheint mir der beste Kompromiss zu sein.

Die 1660 ohne TI braucht bei mir bei diesem Testbild ca. 3,3 sec., wobei ich den Verdacht habe, dass der 3700X meine Werte etwas verbessert, nachdem ich mir verschiedene DT-Benchmarks angesehen habe.

Die RTX 2060 SUPER soll mit der 2070 vergleichbar sein., wieder Bauchgefühl, vielleicht werden es bei mir statt 2,7 sec 2,5. Anders formuliert, werden es vielleicht 20% mehr. Du hast schon recht, viel tut sich da nicht im Vergleich zum Preisunterschied von 150€. Aber die Frage ist eben, ob man den Vergleich so denken kann.

Geschenkt bekommt man nichts.

10% Prozent mehr Leistung bei höherem Verbrauch, im Prinzip logisch. Du bleibst ja beim technischen Stand, daher ist Ryzen und Ryzen 3000 besonders so interessant. Sehe ich bei Grafikkarten nicht so spannend.

Mich haut das nicht um.

Lieber jetzt etwas ärgern, und dann in 2 Jahren einen neuen technischen Stand kaufen, der dann echte Verbesserungen mitbringt.

0,5 cm erscheint mir auch recht gering, das könnte die Kühlleistung mindern "Schlürfeffekt" - ergo wird die Karte unter Vollast lauter.

P.S. die "Super" scheint auch recht teuer zu sein. Klar, alles relativ ... !

P.S.P.S hier hat mal jemand geschrieben, daß er bei neuer Hardware mind. die doppelte Leistung erwartet. Interessanter Ansatz, voll menschlich, voll subjektiv ...

Ja, andererseits ist der Aufpreis auf die Super relativ gering, so ca. 30€ und die "Nicht-Super" hat 3 Slots. Die MSI GeForce RTX 2060 Gaming Z 6G hat 52mm. Vermutlich war die 1660 ohne TI gar keine so schlecht Wahl.

Der Preisunterschied zur MSI GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Armor 6G OC, 6GB GDDR6 liegt bei ca. 50€. Seitdem mir der vorher zititerte Benchmark mit dem 2070 bewusst ist, relativiert sich für mich einiges. Man muss ja auch den höheren Stromverbrauch der 2060 rechnen. Vielleicht läuft es auf den Unterschied zwischen GDDR 5 und 6 raus.

GDDR6 mag für Spiele -zeitkritisch- toll sein, für deinen Einsatzfall nicht so entscheidend. Dürfte bei dir eigentlich exklusiv die GPU sein. Peripherie stimmt ja sonst.

Auch die Thermik sollte nicht so anstregend sein bei dir. Es werden ja nicht alle Module genutzt. Ich habe mal einen Vergleich bei Spielen gesehen, je nach Nutzung der Karte waren die Unterschiede gigantisch.

Ich war früher immer der Meinung, es werden einfach planlos frames produziert.

GDDR6 mag für Spiele -zeitkritisch- toll sein, für deinen Einsatzfall nicht so entscheidend. Dürfte bei dir eigentlich exklusiv die GPU sein.

Schwierig, ob ich da einfach mal 50€ auf Verdacht rauswerfe.

Ich habe mal was anderes probiert, keine Ahnung, ob das klug ist.

diese bench.srw ist ja APS-C 20MP, ich habe ein Vollformat-Foto von mir genommen aber die Bearbeitungen von bench.srw.xmp

Original Phoronix APS-C mit Ryzen 3700X und GTX 1660:

  • bench.srw: 3,310 secs

  • server_room.nef: 1,136 secs

  • masskrug.nef: 3,948 secs

Vollformat (7360x4912, 36MP) von mir mit xmp von Phoronix.

  • 4,655 secs vs. 3,310 secs (bench)

  • 6,307 secs vs. 3,948 secs (masskrug)

Im schlimmsten Fall braucht das Vollformat also fast doppelt so lang. Wenn ich jetzt annehme, dass bei einer Fotosession 300 Fotos gemacht werden und 100 übrig bleiben, dann bin ich bei ca. 600 Sekunden oder 10 Minuten für das Rendern. In der Praxis können schon 1-2 Korrekturen nach dem Rendern kommen, also es muss 3x gerechnet werden und meist ist es schneller alles zu rechnen, als die geänderten manuell zu selektieren und rechnen zu lassen. Somit geht es darum wie sehr sich die 3x10 Minuten verkürzen lassen. Bei 15% schneller sind das dann statt 30 Minuten 25,5 Minuten.

Gute Idee, danke, aber das ist nicht so einfach. Da muss ich zuerst ein Board finden, bei dem man 2. Grafikkarten und 1 Firewire-Karte unterbringt. Das flexibelste X570-Board in dieser Hinsicht dürfte das Asrock X570 Phantom Gaming X sein. Details bei http://asrock.pc.cdn.bitgravity.com/Manual/X570%20Phantom%20Gaming%20X.pdf

Schön langsam lerne ich die Benchmarks bzgl. Grafikkarten besser zu lesen.

Das Boot-Foto ist mein bensch.srw

  • GTX 1060: 3,76

  • GTX 1660: 3,310 secs (meine Karte unter Eoan)

  • GTX 1660 TI: 2,95

  • RTX 2060: 2,49

Masskrug_Foto:

  • GTX 1060: 4,09

  • GTX 1660: 3,948 secs (meine Karte unter Eoan)

  • GTX 1660 TI: 4,01

  • RTX 2060: 3,91

Das Masskrug-Foto dauert bei mir also länger als das Boot-Foto, aber mein GTX 1660 Wert liegt etwa bei der um 2 Stufen besseren RTX 2060 und ist besser als die 1660TI. Somit stellt sich die Frage, ob die Werte vergleichbar sind. Wenn ich jetzt die TI nehmen würde und für ca. 15% mehr Geld 15% mehr Leistung bekommen würde, dann wäre das für mich ok.

Zurück zur 2 Grafikkarten-Variante. Ich habe keine Werte gefunden um wieviel 2 Grafikkarten schneller sind. Müssen diese 2 Karten dann für Darktable speziell verbunden werden, ist das ähnlich wie für Spieler? Müssen die 2 Karten im Board untereinander sein? Siehe zB das Layout vom Board oben.

Imagemagick unterstützt auch OpenCL bei manchen Operationen. Hast du eine Idee wie man den Unterschied messen kann? Mich würde speziell "convert -resize" interessieren.

Soweit ich das verstanden habe, agieren die Karten bei OpenCL voneinander unabhängig (also kein SLI-Verbund wie beim Spielen, wo die Karten gemeinsam an einem Frame rechnen) - damit sollte das Rendern grundsätlich parallelisierbar sein (die Einstellung "Multiple GPUs" beim Scheduler sorgt dafür, dass er die GPU nimmt, die gerade nichts zu tun hat) und idealerweise sollte die Geschwindigkeit linear mit der Anzahl der Karten ansteigen, solange der Rest des Systems da nicht bremst. Allerdings scheint Darktable das in neueren Versionen nicht mehr mehr als ein Bild gleichzeitig exportieren zu können: https://www.mail-archive.com/darktable-user@lists.darktable.org/msg00915.html - damit hat das nur noch Vorteile, wenn man zwei Instanzen des Programms parallel Bilder rechnen lassen kann (müsste man ausprobieren).

Hane mir über das Wochenende eine 1660 TI ausgeliehen, ein riesen Brummer mit 3 Lüftern von Asus, ging nur mit Tricks in den PC.

Gleicher PC, aber mit der GTX 1660 war es noch ein Beta-Kernel und ein Dev-Nvidia-Treiber, die TI ist mit Xubuntu von heute, also geringfügig, ein paar Tage neuerer Kernel und Nvidia-Treiber von der Installation und nicht vom Repo. Edit: Werte ergänzt mit gleichem Softwarestand für 1660. Es gibt aber nur kleine Unterschiede.

Schwer zu glauben, dass die TI sogar langsamer sein kann. Viel tut sich also nicht, im besten Fall ist die TI 14-15% schneller. Bei meinem Vollbildformat handelt es sich um Korrekturen, die ich üblicherweise mache, das waren bis jetzt nicht sehr viele, da alles extrem langsam war.
