1. Will an app I have installed already update to snap version or will I have to install it again?
We don't plan to convert phone or tablets from Click to Snap via an OTA, there are too many things that we can't reliably do with such a conversion. Instead new devices would ship with a Snap-based image, and existing devices would have to be re-flashed with such an image to make the switch.
2. If there is no snap version of an app I have installed, will that app stay on the phone?
Since there won't be an in-place upgrade path, it means you will have to re-install all of your apps on the new image.
3. What about an app I paid for? Will I need to buy it again?
That's still being worked out. In theory it should be possible to migrate purchase data over, if we can identify which snaps match which clicks, so that you wouldn't have to re-purchase, just re-install. But it will depend on the implementation details how this will work.
4. How app data will be handled? Is the snap version of an app going to have access to what was accessible by the click version? Will it read the settings and databases of click app?
Again, you will be starting with a clean device image, so there won't be any data migration.
5. I see snap packages file size is huge. Will I be able to install only few apps before my phone is full?
Click packages were kept small by depending on a "framework" of libraries and services to be always available on the phone or tablet. Snaps don't require such a dependency, but there is work going on right now to provide the equivalent functionality.
6. My phone (bq e4.5) probably will not be supported by snap packages. Will I still get security updates for click packages?
The timeline for Click support, and non-snap image update, is still being worked out. Obviously we don't want to spend too much in terms of time and effort into something we want to replace, but we also don't want to make the transition unnecessarily disruptive if we can avoid it.
