Hallo,

ich hatte in den letzten Wochen immer mal wieder auf einigen Rechnern Probleme im Zusammenspiel mit btrfs und externen Festplatten. System entweder Debian (Stretch) oder ubuntu 18.04.

Da von dem Fehler anfangs nur 2 externe Festplatten betroffen waren, ging ich davon aus, dass sie defekt seien. Leider sind die dort verbauten USB-Controller nicht smart-kompatibel und da auf den Platten noch Garantie ist wollte ich die Gehäuse nicht aufbrechen.

Jetzt tritt seit gestern Abend das Problem auch auf meinem Tischrechner (ubuntu 18.04) beim Hochfahren auf:

aus. Alle versuche das Dateisystem zu reparieren (btrfscheck --repair /dev/sdc1) brachten bisher das gleiche Ergebnis.

Ein manuelles Einhägen scheitert ebenfalls mount /dev/sdc1 /mnt/test/ mount: /mnt/test/: Falscher Dateisystemtyp, ungültige Optionen, der Superblock von /dev/sdc1 ist beschädigt, fehlende Kodierungsseite oder ein anderer Fehler.

Das Ergebnis bei allen 3 Varianten: 

mount: /mnt/test: Falscher Dateisystemtyp, ungültige Optionen, der Superblock von /dev/sdc1 ist beschädigt, fehlende Kodierungsseite oder ein anderer Fehler.

Hintergrund/Geschichte

Das System verhielt sich beim letzten Start unauffällig und lief bisher gut. Da es jedoch die letzten 3 Wochen inaktiv war, ließ ich updates durchlaufen und startete es danach neu. Danach lief es ebenfalls noch fehlerfrei und ich fuhr es herunter (shutdown -h now). Als ich es gestern abend wieder starten wollte traten die obigen Fehler auf. Seit dem suche ich die Ursache.

Hardware

Relativ (!) ausgeschlossen habe ich als erstes einen Fehler an der Festplatte. Denn zum einen Tritt der Fehler nicht nur auf diesem System auf (also auch auf einer anderen Festplatte), zum anderen sagt smart nach durchgeführtem test (smartctl --test=long /dev/sdc)

Es sollte gar kein Raid sein. Und soweit ich sehe ist es das auch nicht durch einen Fehler meinerseits geworden.

Das OS kommt von einer kleinen SSD. Aktuell habe ich den Eintrag in /etc/fstab auskommentiert und neue Verzeichnisse für die Benutzer auf der Root-Partition unter /home angelegt, um erst einmal temporär mit dem System weiterarbeiten können.

Ein Kernel Update oder so gab es nicht zwischendurch? Als nächstes wäre es eine Option den Free Space Cache per btrfsck und anschließend passender Mount Option zu löschen.

Wie sicher bist du das die Platte nicht einen hau weg hat? Ich weiß, du kommst nicht an SMART ran, aber so vom Gefühl?

Doch, gab es, aber ich habe inzwischen auch einige ältere Kernel probiert, mit denen es bisher fehlerfrei lief, dadurch zeigte sich leider auch keine Änderung.

nein, bei den beiden anderen Platten komme ich nicht an Smart heran, die je eine Datensicherung enthielten. Beide liegen mir nicht mehr vor.

Ich gehe daher recht sicher davon aus, dass die Platte ok ist. Der letzte Langzeittest lief nach Auftreten des Fehlers über Nacht. Aktuell ist die Platte ausgebaut, ich plane jedoch sie heute Nacht wieder einzusetzen und einen weiteren Test laufen zu laufen.

Aktuell ist eine andere 3 TB Festplatte eingebaut um Fehler an Motherboard und s-ata Kabel weitgehend ausschließen zu können.

Dann würde ich mal probieren den Space Cache zu leeren, wie beschrieben. Abgesehen davon hatte ich derartige Verhalten bisher nur bei defekten Disks oder Kabeln.

Das könnte den Fehler auf den USB-Platten erklären. Jedoch nicht den der Festplatte hier. Hier lief durchgehend ubuntu 18.04 drauf. Das andere (Live DVD/Space Cache) versuche ich heute Nacht irgendwann, die Downloads dauern noch etwas.

Ich hab nochwas gefunden, ganz unten die Email im gelben Block. Stichwort Erzwingen der Verwendung eines anderen Superblocks. Ob es diese Schalterchen noch gibt, musst Du ausprobieren. Der Post hat schon ein paar Jahre auf dem Buckel.

durch Umzug leider etwas verzögert, sorry. Ja, das dachte ich bisher auch. Habe das mit dem Cache gemacht, keine Änderung, habe inzwischen diverse Kernelversionen durch u.a. aus diversen Live-CDs das brachte ebenfalls keine Änderung des Fehlers.

Habe die Platte Ersatzfestplatte die derzeit eingebaut ist nochmal etwas kontrolliert, und bin dabei auf recht hohe Temperaturen gestoßen (zwischen 50-60°C). Lüfter im Gehäuse getauscht. Jetzt sieht es etwas besser aus, was die Temperatur betrifft, aber der Fehler tritt, wenn ich die originale Festplatte (mit dem Fehler im Dateisystem einbaue) weiterhin auf. Die Ersatzfestplatte mit Ext4 läuft (und lief auch mit den hohen Temperaturen) fehlerfrei.

Aktuell erstelle ich mittels dd ein Image der Festplatte mit dem defekten Dateisystem um einmal eine Fehlersuche etwas unabhängiger von der Hardware durchführen zu können. Die externen USB-Festplatten untersuche bei nächster Gelegenheit mit badblocks, ebenso die mit dem defekten Dateisystem. Zur Sicherheit werden erst einmal alle meine Daten die auf btrfs formatierten Datenträgern liegen auf ext4 formatierte Datenträger umgelagert.

Das liest sich sehr gut und vielversprechend, jedoch scheint btrfs-zero-log /dev/sdc1 in diesem Fall nicht zu helfen. Obwohl es das laut Beitrag dort eigentlich sollte, sodass ich langsam vermute, dass hier noch mehr nicht stimmt und ich spätestens durch meine Reperaturversuche die Daten endgültig ins Nirwana befördert habe. Ich probiere jedoch die weiteren Schritte dort noch einmal, wenn das Image erstellt ist.

Vielen dank für eure Beiträge und den Einsatz hier, ich habe im Umgang mit Btrfs einiges dazugelernt.

ok, ich glaube immer weniger an ein Hardwareproblem. Der Fehler tritt nun auf dem zweiten Computer mit ubuntu 18.04 auf. Jedoch reicht nur beim Systemstart, ich lande dann im Rescuemodus.

löst das Problem. Ich sitze ab übermorgen wieder physikalisch vor dem Rechner und werde auch dort nach dem Fehler suchen. Vielleicht finden sich ja dort einige Hinweise oder der Fehler dort hat eine andere Ursache. 🙄

USB-Festplatten

Informationen insgesamt betroffen derzeit 2 Stück,2 x 8 TB, einmal Segate, einmal Western Digital Gemeinsamkeiten: USB3, BTRFS als Dateisystem, einzige Partition, Verwendung als Backupmedium an einem Server, kein wechselnder Zugriff

Diagnose bisher - Imagedatei erstellen ⇒ Prozess läuft nächster geplanter Schritt - Festplatten unter Windows neu partitioniert, formatiert ⇒ werden auf defekte Sektoren geprüft ⇒ Ergebnis steht noch aus - mögliche Ursache für die Fehler hier: Zugriff mit verschiedenen btrfs-Versionen (Debian/Ubuntu), jedoch Ubuntu nur lesend und nicht bei allen Festplatten sicher

Hinweis https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/32440/how-do-i-fix-btrfs war recht hilfreich noch einmal alles etwas systematischer anzugehen.

vorläufige Lösung

1. neue USB3 Festplatte 8 TB um wieder ein zweites Backup zu haben

2. Umstellen aller produktiven Systeme von btrfs auf ext4 (wo möglich)

3. weitere Diagnose mit den Image-Dateien noch bis 31.9 möglich (danach kann ich den Netzwerkspeicher den ich derzeit zum Lagern der Images einsetze dafür nicht mehr nutzen)
