Ich heiß zwar superchecker, bin aber gar keiner. Also wusste ich auch nicht, dass ich Verzeichnisse wieder löschen muss. Eigentlich will ich ja bloss meinen Scanner zum Laufen bringen.
Ob mein DCP-165C Drucker/Scanner von Brother in /lib/udev/rules.d/ eingetragen ist, weiß ich nicht. Jedenfalls ist dort keine Datei, die DCP oder 165 oder Brother enthält.

Drucker über USB angesteckt und angeschaltet, Gimp gestartet und mit Menu "File/Create/XSane/Device dialog" den Scanner gesucht:

habe ich in der Datei den Text

ergänzt. Allerdings waren im Terminal folgende Fehlermeldungen:
