Bevor du die Datei das nächste mal löschst, leg dir doch mal eine Kopie davon in dein Home-Verzeichnis (da sollte genug platz sein, wenn ich mir die erste Seite des Threads so anschaue). Dann kann man die anschließend in aller Ruhe analysieren. | cp /var/log/syslog ~/syslog

Hallo, noch ist die Meldung "Wenig Speicher" nicht da. Auch geht der Browser zu starten.
Und die Datei syslog hat die Größe wie folgt:
-rw-r----- 1 syslog adm 2,2G Sep 3 17:54 syslog

Bitte führe jetzt mal durch, was Lookbehind bereits vorgeschlagen hatte: Lookbehind schrieb: Die Datei ist sicherlich zu groß um die händisch durch zu gehen. Es könnte also hilfreich sein, zunächst mal zu schauen, wonach man sucht.

Hallo,
ich muss schon wieder mit meinem Ersatzcomputer in das Forum gehen, weil schon alles sehr langsam geht. Lookbehind schrieb: leg dir doch mal eine Kopie davon in dein Home-Verzeichnis
Das habe ich schon gemacht. Es dauerte einige Zeit bis die Datei syslog im Persönlichem Ordner erschien. Dann wollte ich den Inhalt der Datei ansehen. Das dauert jetzt schon etwa eine halbe Stunde bis dieser Ladebalken weiter geht. Ich möchte amliebsten den Computer vom elektrischen Strom trennen.
Es ist aber schon zu sehen, dass viele Zeilen von heute folgendes zeigen: page: Error: /usr/share/texlive/texmf-dist/fonts/public/cm/cmr10.tfm:File corrupted, or not a TFM file.
Ich habe heute das Kile, den Texteditor für Latex, mehrere Stunden angehabt. Wahrscheinlich liegt es daran, oder?
Das was HarryD vorgeschlagen hat, probiere ich morgen. Ich bin dann erst wieder morgen Nachmittag am Computer. Gruß Wolfgang

Du könntest auch mal gemäß Festplattenstatus die smartmontools installieren
sudo apt-get install smartmontools
und dann die Festplatte prüfen
sudo smartctl -a /dev/sda
vorausgesetzt, du hast nur eine Festplatte sda.

Aus irgendwelchen Gründen, frag mich nicht warum, scheint deine syslog-Datei etwas anders formatiert zu sein. Obwohl das auf Seite 3 dieses Threads eigentlich nicht danach aussieht. Daher hat der Befehl leider die falsche Spalte ausgewertet. Bitte noch mal folgendes:
| cut -d ' ' -f 6 /var/log/syslog | sort | uniq -c | sort -n
|
Nur eine kleine Änderung. Bei cut ist der Parameter -f jetzt mit 6 statt mit 5 versehen, was die sechste Spalte auswertet. (Obwohl die 5te eigentlich die richtige sein müsste *kratz) Edit: Ich glaub ich weiß, warum das nicht funktioniert hat. Und zwar wird im Syslog das Datum nicht mit Nullen, sondern mit Leerzeichen aufgefüllt. Da cut sich aber an der Anzahl der Leerzeichen orientiert, hat sich das, da wir Anfang des Monats haben, und die Tage erst einstellig sind, um genau ein Leerzeichen verschoben. Müsst ich mir langfristig mal was anderes überlegen. Aber ich glaub cut kann nicht auf allgemein "Whitespace" angesetzt werden. Müsste ich was mit awk basteln... Hm, das heißt RegExp... ähhh... nich mehr heute 😀 Für heute sollte es aber der korrigierte Befehl von oben tun.

Wurde denn vorher wenigstens sicher gestellt, dass Kile auch dafür verantwortlich ist, dass dein syslog so groß wird? Oder war das bisher nur die Vermutung deinerseits?

Hallo, ich habe jetzt schon mit dem Kile wieder gearbeitet. Jetzt ist diese Datei syslog nicht besonders groß:
-rw-r----- 1 syslog adm 658K Sep 5 14:00 syslog
Ich bin deshalb zuversichtlich, dass das Problem gelöst ist. Ich danke allen, die bei der Lösung des Problems bemüht waren, mir zu helfen. Gruß wolfgang1939
