Ich experimentiere aktuell mit dem VMWare-Player und habe einen Windows 10 Gast installiert. Beim Starten der virtuellen Maschine kommt folgende Meldung:

No 3D support is available from the host.
The 3D features of the virtual machine will be disabled.

Hardware graphics acceleration is not available.
As a result, this virtual machine may experience very low
graphics performance. Follow the instructions provided by your
graphics card vendor or Linux distribution in order to update your 
computer's OpenGL drivers.

Zur verwendeten Grafikkarte. Es ist eine PCI-e Sapphire Radeon HD 6570 Grafikkarte, eingebaut in einem Desktop-PC. Die Hardware Daten hatte ich mit inxi -Fz ermittelt und im ersten Post genannt.

Insbesondere bei der Verwendung von Intel-Grafik kann es vorkommen, dass trotz funktionierender 3d-Beschleunigung beim Start des Gastsystems die Meldung "No 3D Support is available from the host" erscheint.

Das scheint eine ganz üble Rebranding Geschichte zu sein, die PCI-ID Datenbank beinhaltet Einträge für Turks, Cape Verde und Whistler GPUs. Das ist insofern beachtlich, dass Cape Verde bereits eine GCN 1.0 Architektur hat, während Turks/Whistler noch die alte Terascale 2 Architektur verwendet - der Bruch ist so groß, dass du mit Cape Verde völlig andere Treiber benutzen kannst und auch direkten Zugang zu Vulkan hättest, während dir dies mit Turks/Whistler (zumindest vorerst) verwehrt bleibt. Alle drei werden als HD 6570 Desktop Karten verkauft.

"Insbesondere" ist nicht gleichbedeutend mit "ausschließlich". Ein sehr großer Teil deiner OpenGL Unterstützung kommt letztendlich sogar direkt vom Intel Treiber.

Es gibt für diese Karte keinen anderen Treiber als den den du bereits nutzt.

Ich habe folgende Einträge in die VMX Datei hinzu gefügt:

mks.enable3d="TRUE"
mks.gl.allowBlacklistedDrivers="TRUE"

Beim Starten der virtuellen Maschine erscheint nun folgende Meldung:

Unable to open /home/userxyz/vmware/Windows 10 x64/Windows 10 x64.vmx as a Virtual Machine:

VMX file is corrupt.

libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0 war schon installiert.

Ich bin weiter gekommen. In der *.vmx Datei folgenden Eintrag hinzu fügen:

mks.gl.allowBlacklistedDrivers="TRUE"

Bitte nur diesen einen Eintrag und nichts weiter.

Danach startet der VMWare-Player ohne die Meldung. Danach die VMWare-Tools installieren und schon funktioniert 3D recht gut. Ein Maulheld hatte mir berichtet wie viel besser VMWare wäre in Bezug auf 3D-CAD im Vergleich zu VirtualBox und KVM-Qemu. Die hätten die Nase derart weit vorne.

Jetzt kann ich mitreden. Diese Aussage ist falsch. VirtualBox mit experimentellem 3D-Treiber ist gleichwertig. Geringfügig besser ist KVM-Qemu mit Virtmanager und Spice. Letzt genanntes hat die Nase vorne, jedoch nur für die von uns genutzte 3D-CAD Software Pro-Engineer Wildfire 5.0.

Hoffentlich kommt irgendwann Virgil-3D für Windows Gäste. Ich hoffe das bringt nochmal eine Verbesserung.

Bleibt noch die Möglichkeit des Passthrough via KVM/Qemu, läuft mit der überarbeiteten Version vom kleineren 970er Schwesterboard von deinem jedenfalls erste Sahne. In Sachen 3D auf alle Fälle allem anderen überlegen.

Da habe ich mich noch nicht ran getraut, aber gelesen habe ich davon. Wärst Du bereit mir dabei zu helfen es einzurichten? Brauche ich dazu eine zweite Grafikkarte?

Ja - ich brauche eine zweite Grafikkarte und es empfiehlt sich sogar ein zweiter Monitor. Um Tastatur und Maus gemeinsam nutzen zu können wird eine kommerzielle Software empfohlen, sie heißt Synergy. KVM-Qemu ist installiert sowie der Virt-Manager und ein Windows 10 Gast ebenfalls. D.h. ich habe die Chance VGA Passtrough nachzuinstallieren. Glaub dazu besorge ich mir extra eine Hardware um es zu testen. Jedoch eher Ende des Jahres, hab grad zuviel andere Dinge um die Ohren.

Definitiv. Das Prinzip beruht ja gerade darauf, dass man das Gerät als ganzes durchreicht - die Workstation Hardware GPU Virtualisierung von AMD ist noch Zukunftsmusik. Wenn man auf dem Host keine große Leistung benötigt tuts ja auch irgend eine übrig gebliebene Low-End Karte, ich nutze eine alte HD 5750 im sekundären Slot und reiche eine R9 285 im primären Slot durch.

Die Grafiktreiber sind auch nicht gerade dafür ausgelegt mal eben wieder entladen zu werden, da kriegt man beim Versuch dies im laufenden Betrieb zu tun auch schon mal stattdessen ne Kernel Panic, auch wenn die Karte bisher für nichts benutzt worden ist - d.h. man sollte eine Karte fest zuordnen und diese schon bevor die Grafiktreiber geladen werden an das Platzhalter-Modul pci-stub binden. Man kann dies inzwischen zwar auf die gleiche Art und Weise direkt mit dem virtio-pci Modul machen, aber mein Versuch damit ging aus irgend einem Grund bei der Grafikkarte fürchterlich schief, ich musste es später laden lassen - andere durchgereichte Peripherie machte hier keinen Ärger.

Mit libvirt ist die Konfiguration recht simpel, ich bin mir aber nicht sicher ob man das ganze inzwischen auch ohne direkt an der XML herumzupfuschen hinkriegt, ich habe die damals noch komplett von Hand geschrieben. Nervig ist nur dass man hier den Zugriff auf die IOMMU Ressourcen erst konfigurieren muss - dass AppArmor einfach die modifizierten Konfigurationsdateien ignoriert und ihm den Zugriff verweigert war einer der Gründe, warum ich damals nach einem Ubuntu Upgrade zu Arch gewechselt bin... Man kann zwar Qemu auch direkt starten, muss dann aber auch mit einer ewig langen Liste von Argumenten klar kommen, das wird schnell unübersichtlich.

In der Arch Community wirst du allgemein sehr viele Informationen und Beispielkonfigurationen finden, das ganze wird von überdurchschnittlich vielen Arch Nutzern betrieben.

Als ich damals damit angefangen habe war das noch Freeware, aber die hat auch ein paar Schwachstellen - einige Spiele können damit überhaupt nicht und bestimmte Tastenkombinationen sind nicht möglich, so muss man zB den Taskmanager über Rechtsklick auf die Startleiste starten.

Ich benutze einfach ein günstiges USB Switch von Aten, man muss für den 2. USB Stecker einfach einen der USB Controller vom Mainboard durchreichen - bei mir war eine USB 2.0/1.1 Kombination ausschließlich mit den Pinleisten für zusätzliche USB Ports auf dem Mainboard verbunden, die hatte ich ohnehin nicht in Benutzung.
